2) Breathwork and Alignment by Michelle Carlino $30

1) Song Writing and Composition  by William Hoshal $40

Have you ever wanted to write your own songs but were mystified by how others do it? Song writing is not a mystery…it is a process.  This workshop will take a student through the basics of song writing; including
discussion of song forms, constructive melodies, and turning improvisations into a complete song.


2) Flute Making Theory by Vance Pennington $20

Learn the aspects and “secrets” behind making a Native American flute, to “concert” standards. 
This class will explain how to solve problems like, where to place the finger holes, what are K1
and K2 pressures, What size should an embouchure be, and much more!

3) Chord Structures and chord playing by Al King $20

This workshop will help the flute player to more easily play with other instruments, like guitars,
by teaching the player to play chords using arpeggios.  This can also help to create original
melodies and take the flute player to the next level.

1) Sound Healing Ceremony by Vince Chafin (2 hours) *$40

“Vince’s sound ceremony is set in beauty; the alter of his varied musical instruments is evidence of his care
and artistry, devotion to ritual.  He has a deep gift as a channel to universal presence and uniquely, he uses
music and sound instead of spoken words to convey spirit messages and healing.  When Vince blows sound
down his flute with its outflow end against your skin, the marvel is a new dynamic of intimacy between
musician and listener, your good fortune at being able to not just hear but feel the resonance.”

2) Beading with a loom by Marby Pennington (2 hours) $60 - including materials

Marby, a Master Beader will be teaching us all of those tricks about beading that you won’t learn
in a book or most other beading classes.  You will receive all the beads necessary to make your
flute wrap, a custom loom engineered by Vance to alleviate neck strain, and printed instructions.

1) Playing the N/F for Dummies by Vince Chafin *$40

We all have to start somewhere and it’s best when we start off right.  Whether this is your first time picking up a flute or your 100th, we all have things we need to learn and improve upon.  We’ll review the basics of proper finger placement. Correct mouth position, and learn breathing techniques that will make you an exceptional flute player.

2) Techniques and Ornamentation by Gary Stroutsos and William Hoshal $50

 A comprehensive look into the concepts and techniques of advanced ornamentation for the NAF. 
This workshop seeks to give the student the tools needed to explore and express their music at the highest
level and to help them on their way to developing and individual sound.

1) Beading Peyote stitch by Marby Pennington $50

Price including materials.  Learn to create beautiful beaded work without using a loom. Learn one of the most versatile stitches in beading plus find answers to lots of questions.  You will create a flat peyote sample, learn about various beads, threads, needles, and how to read a chart.  Designed for specifically for beginning bead weavers.

2) Playing from the heart by Vince Chafin (1.5 hours) *$35

Breaking through the Barriers.  Is your playing in a rut? Are you playing the same old songs and patterns over
and over?  Are you a new player wondering what to play or where to find your inspiration?  When listening to your favorite CD do you wonder “Why can’t I play like that?”  This ‘playshop’ offers techniques to elevate your playing levels that will revitalize your flute practice and renew your musical passion.

3) Scott August Workshop

Scott August will also be giving a workshop for Intermediate/Advanced Native American flute.

    1 ) In Pursuit of Ancient Flutes by Michael Graham Allen: FREE WORKSHOP

For the last 3 decades Michael Graham Allen has researched artifacts, fashioned replicas, composed music and enjoyed a 20 year career as a professional recording artist.  In this informal lecture, you will have the opportunity to handle replicas of historical flutes and explore little known instruments including the Anasazi, Hopi, Mojave and Yuma flutes among others.  This will be an overview of ancient North American flutes based on documented artifacts.

1) How to play Anasazai Flute for beginning, intermediate and advanced players by Michael Graham Allen: FREE WORKSHOP

Michael will touch upon the history and construction of the Anasazi and other rim blown flutes and help
you expand your personal exploration of this family of mysterious ancient flutes of North America.

2) Being The Hollow Reed, Music in Health Care by Annie Mathias 90 minutes $10

Diane “Annie” Mathias. MA is a professional expressive arts practitioner who has created and facilitates a successful Native American-style flute class at a leading hospital in Rancho Mirage, CA.  In this experiential workshop, Annie teaches and shares her work, which extends far beyond “playing songs” on hospital floors. Using music as a healing modality in the healthcare system is an important part of integrated medicine.

3) Echoes of Canyon de Chelly by Gary Stroutsos and Paul Thompson  90 minutes $45.00 includes a signed copy of the recording “Echoes of Canyon de Chelly”

The journey recording traditional American Indian love songs inside the walls of Canyon de Chelly comes alive through this informal discussion and presentation of songs and their origins that were recorded by Gary and Paul.  Questions on the origins or techniques used on the recorded performances are open for discussion.  This is not a
how to play the flute workshop.  Our wish is to inspire players of all levels to have a better understanding of the traditional aspects of the American Indian flute, which can create a foundation for traditional playing.

1) Next Step in the Journey by Vince Chafin (1.5 hours) $35

Are you playing as beautifully as you would like? Are the sounds coming from your flute making flowers bloom
and your lover swoon? If not, let’s discover some of the hidden secrets to making you a better flute player. 
This class is open to ALL levels and for anyone who wants to take their playing to the next level.

Rhythmic Improvization for Experienced Players Flute by William Hoshal $40

Using rhythmic motifs to teach players how to improvise and construct coherent melodies. 
Based on William’s 20 year career as a jazz professional, this class combines his personal experience
with his studies with Chuck Marohnic and Dennis Sandoll

At that time we will choose the best variety of workshops to fit into
our 3 day event schedule. If you are interested in providing a workshop,
please submit a description of the workshop, any materials you will provide,
what each person attending needs to bring, the cost of the workshop, and any
